  ABOUT CHANGO’S BBQ SAUCE

I have been making BBQ sauce since about 2002. It started when my wife and I moved from San Juan Capistrano, CA to Oceanside, CA. There is a restaurant. down the street and we used to love getting the 2 for $5.00 Bacon Cheeseburger and a side of rings. But there was something missing from that meal, a little spice. My mother-in-law Godeleva had taught me a nice technique for making salsa and Mexican style chili, so I incorporated that into my BBQ sauce and there you have the birth of the Heat for Your Meat BBQ sauce as you know it today.

Well…… Here it is. The final draft for Heat for Your Meat. Thanks again to Minh Nguyen who made this possible. Thanks to Leti Ramirez Dobson who came up with ” Heat for Your Meat” Very catchy. The name CHANGO’s is a props to my late great little brother Super Steve Abend. Also, the tattoo on the chip’s chest, “SCA” pays tribute to Steve and what a great father, brother, husband, uncle and human being he was. American Flags….. well, if you don’t like that, then this sauce isn’t for you. The trident pays tribute to all my friends, current and past, who served in the military and law enforcement, specifically Special Operation Units ( USMC Recon, Navy Seals, Rangers, Snipers, MARSOC, SRT, SED…. You know who you are !) Lastly, the fire and peppers for the heat that will knock your socks off.

Additionally, I quickly started to get requests from friends for a “milder” version of the sauce, sooooo, take out the peppers and go back to the original recipe, Sweet for Your Meat. The label is classic WWII bomber nose art with a “pinup” likeness of my better half on it. Oh la la !!
